Ambassadors of european and olympic values 2019/2020 - Season 5

For this year Maison de l’Europe Bordeaux-Aquitaine started a fruitful collaboration with the Committee for Sport and Olympism of Gironde department to support the future Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games, so that they can have a real impact on the whole Gironde department. From our first meetings, we quickly realised that the values defended by Olympism (the Olympic Charter) and those defended by the European Union via the Charter of Fundamental Rights were similar. So we came up with this new project, which we describe as hybrid and progressive, based on the promotion of sport and human values: excellence, friendship and respect, human dignity, freedom, equality and solidarity, democracy.

The main aim of this project is to promote European and Olympic values throughout Gironde. The aim is that, before the Olympics games of 2024, every young person in Gironde, wherever they may be and wherever they may live in the département, will have had the opportunity to learn about Olympic and European values, thus reinforcing their active and positive citizenship.

This season we are continuing to open up to third countries such as Georgia and Serbia, but we are also delighted to welcome a new nationality – our volunteer Yiorkos from Cyprus! All our European volunteers are once again accompanied by French volunteers in Civil Service.
